Мейфлауэр — aнглийское торговое судно, на котором англичане, основавшие одно из первых британских поселений в Северной Америке, в 1620 году пересекли Атлантический океан.
MEDALLION: 1970 "Sailing of the Pilgrim Fathers 350th Anniversary" B: Plymouth, hallmarked .925 silver - top grade
This medallion was struck to commemorate the "350th Anniversary of the Pilgrim Fathers". The "Mayflower" and the "Speedwell" set off from Southampton in July 1620. The Speedwell immediately started taking in water and both ships docked at Plymouth. She was considered unfit to continue the voyage and the Mayflower re-sailed on her own. She arrived in Cape Cod, Massachusetts,North America about 6 weeks later in September 1620. She docked just south of where Boston is now located. The settlement of New Plymouth (now called Plymouth) was then established. I am selling 3 medallions in this series (I am not sure if there are any others). This one features the Mayflower and Plymouth.
It is hallmark (see the third photograph) and was struck in .925 sterling silver.
It had a limited edition which I believe was a maximum of 5,000 medallions. It is numbered "0599" on the edge.
It has a diameter of 38.5 mm and weighs 31.3 grams.
